I am a single mother and cancer survivor. My daughter has been living with Schizophrenia for the past 15 years. Last year, I joined a webinar for caregivers organised by Pushpanjali Trust. Since then, I am part of most of the activities of the Trust. The Psychiatric Social Worker and Psychologist of Pushpanjali Trust visited my house on my request, to motivate my daughter to participate in activities of daily living.
They have mobilised many parents like me into the ongoing campaign for group homes for persons with mental disabilities in Chandigarh. Otherwise being a single mother and senior citizen, it would have been so difficult for me to participate and contribute to the campaign. Elderly parents need someone who continuously keeps the motivation level up and doesn’t let it go down, as such campaigns take time and energy. Pushpanjali Trust has been playing such a crucial role for all the caregivers of Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula.
Apart from this campaign, the Trust has helped us by creating a strong caregivers support network – people with whom I can discuss my problems and spend quality time out of the house environment.
I want to say thank you and wish Pushpanjali Trust good luck.
Experiences shared by a middle aged person with mental illness who has been suffering with Bipolar Disorder. He is living alone in his house after the demise of his father in Chandigarh. He has Shared his experiences
When I am alone I feel like talking to somebody with whom I can share my thoughts, my problems and mental health issues. Gurpreet (Psychiatric Social Worker) and Aditya (Managing Trustee Pushpanjali Trust) are the people who are always available to talk to me. Gurpreet visits my home whenever I request him to do so and sometimes I am in the mood to discuss my issues with him. I have very good rapport with both Aditya and Gurpreet. Aditya takes me for a walk sometimes to Sukhna Lake as I personally don’t go out much for walks etc.
They invite me weekly for social musical evenings at Fragrance Garden Sector 36 Chandigarh. Where I enjoy music with a cup of tea and along with good conversation. I feel sorry as I don’t go there every time due to my low mood cycles but I love to go there when I am in an ok mood. Gurpreet has taught me to use a smartphone as before that I was so reluctant to use it. He motivated me and taught me from the very basics thus now I am able to attend the online meetings of my Buddha circle and as well as webinars of Pushpanjali trust done fortnightly for persons with mental illness. Aditya and Gurpreet both have helped me a lot as professionals and as well as very good friends of mine. I want to thank both of them and I would try to give my best to improve myself l to my day today a life.
I want to remember one incident when Gurpreet and his friends helped me to reach home when I fell down from my scooter in Sector 36. I cannot thank all of you enough for the help that day. I shared about the long stay home campaign run by Pushpanjali test with my relatives as a want that such facilities should be available for persons with mental illness everywhere in the country. I want to help more in this campaign as much as I can. Once again I want to thank Pushpanjali Trust for their help and support.
