Advocacy

Advocating for the rights of persons with mental disabilities is a key area of our work. In the recent past, India has had two new laws that are a radical departure from the past:

  • Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016
  • The Mental Healthcare Act, 2017

As per the provisions of these laws, we have been campaigning relentlessly for ‘right to community living’ since 2018. We have filed Public Interest Litigation (PIL) regarding this for the states of Punjab, Haryana and UT Chandigarh.

We have been advocating for:

Activities & Tools:

  • Filing RTI applications
  • Filing public interest litigations (PILs)
  • Liaison with government officials and civil society members
  • Media Coverage
  • Webinars / Seminars
  • Videos, Posters, Presentations
  • Social media
